A 20 % larger prop increases control and a taller gearcase puts the prop deeper below turbulent water for improved performance. A low 2.42:1 gear ratio and high thrust propeller make the Mercury 9.9 outboard engine an excellent choice for sailboat and trolling/kicker applications. The Command Thrust over sized anti-ventilation plate prevents air from being drawn into the propeller, further enhancing efficiency and performance.
