DescriptionJapanese antique carved lacquer box for holding Buddhist texts. Made of wood and decorated with carved symbols representing the Buddha’s footsteps in Buddhism. The word for the symbol, ‘Swastika’ comes from the Sanskrit root su-asti, meaning ‘well-being’ or ‘good fortune.’ The symbol embodies the dharma wheel, or the wheel of law. The teaching of Buddha that leads to the dharma, the road to enlightenment.
