DescriptionJapanese antique tobacco pouch made of gourd and keyaki (elm) wood and decorated with a cricket and the crescent moon on one side. The green enamel cricket sits on a long blade of grass. On the other side of the box is a scene of a butterfly and wild flowers made with lacquer and inlaid with mother of pearl. The top of the box is held on with thin cord which fits through holes in the lid made of bone. The a purple glass ojime bead helps to tighten or loosen the cord in order to open or close the box. On the underside of the lid is a sticker marking the box as once belonging to the collection of the Denver Art Museum.Age: Meiji Period (1868-1912)Dimensions: 2 7/8″ high x 4 1/4″ long x 1 5/8″ wide
