Description THIS PEN IS NOW RESERVED FOR DF Harry Burnham started the Burnham pen company, in England, around 1920 and it produced a great variety of fountain pens until it folded in the 1960s, partly because of the infamous ‘ballpoint effect’. The Burnham No. 47, this model with a ‘cowled clip’, was produced in the early 1950s. The pen has been restored and tested and is in outstanding condition, it has clearly seen little use. A new ink sac was fitted as the original had deteriorated with age. It is beautifully finished in an attractive marbled black/ plum/pink pattern with green veins. Unusually for a Burnham, the Gold trim has survived very well, The barrel bears a strong imprint which reads: ‘Burnham No. 47’ ‘England’ The nib is the original Burnham Gold plated steel nib with a medium point. It is stamped: ‘Burnham’ ‘Medium’ ‘S 20’ The pen fills well andis a great writer. The nib has a slight stub profile which gives a broad vertical and narrower horizontal line, the resulting width variation adds character to the writing. At 12cm. capped and 14.3cm. posted it is not a large pen but it is well balanced and a very ‘comfortable’ writer.
