DescriptionAntique Chinese celadon-glazed “Arrow” vase, inspired by the ancient ritual game in which arrows were tossed into a narrow-necked vessel. This elegant form, with its rounded body, tall cylindrical neck, and opposing tubular handles, directly references archaic bronze prototypes of the Zhou dynasty. The surface is covered in a refined celadon glaze with pronounced crackle (crazing), reminiscent of Guan ware of the Southern Song dynasty. The pale gray-green tone, combined with the network of darker crackle lines, creates depth and visual movement across the surface. This intentional crackle pattern — prized in Chinese ceramics — symbolizes natural aging, ice fractures, and philosophical imperfection.During the Ming and Qing dynasties, and again in the Republic period, kilns intentionally revived Song dynasty aesthetics, producing celadon “arrow” vases in tribute to classical forms. The restrained glaze and balanced proportions align closely with these revival traditions. Very good original condition, no old repairs.Age: late 19th CenturyDimensions: 4 1/2″ high x 3 1/2″ diameter
